Cherry Valley River Ramble

Sunday, May 18, 2:00 - 4:30 PM

LET’S RAMBLE!

Please join us for the Cherry Valley Ramble on Sunday afternoon May 18, 2008 from 2:00pm to 4:30pm.  This event is open to the public and is sponsored by Friends of Cherry Valley and the Brodhead Watershed Association

Participants will drive to four selected tracts, then walk a short distance to meet with naturalist volunteers who will tell them how the property was acquired and how it provides for watershed protection and habitat for special plants and animals. Farming is traditional in the Cherry Creek watershed and each of these tracts represents a farm saved by easement or purchase.  The Nature Conservancy saved the Blakeslee Farm, StroudTownship saved part of the Josie Porter farm, Pocono Heritage Land Trust saved part of the Walker property, and Monroe County Open Space together with the PA Department of Agriculture preserved part of the Fetherman farm.

Participants must sign up in advance by calling Anne Fetherman at 570-424-8121 or email at fethermana@verizon.net before noon on May 17.

Friends of CherryValley will set up a welcome center tent in the parking lot of the education building of CherryValleyUnitedMethodistChurch on Kemmertown Rd., which intersects Cherry Valley Rd. 4 miles west of Route 191. The welcome center will be open from 1:30pm to 2:30pm.  At the tent, participants will be asked for a donation ($10 individual, $15 family).  Nametags and site directions will be provided.

Literature concerning watershed issues and land preservation groups will be available at the welcome tent and at the Fetherman home where you are invited to meet for refreshments at the end of the RambleThe distance from one end to the other of the sites is less than 9 miles, meaning that you will be sure to find your afternoon both relaxing and informative.

Mark your calendar and sign up for this special event as space is limited.
