Cherry Creek Watershed

Several limestone kilns remain along Cherry Valley Road, one near the Friedrich Farm and another near Bossardsville on the western end of the Valley. Lime, used a fertilizer, was produced on the farm by burning lime to an ash that was then spread on the fields. The industry died with the decline of agriculture in Monroe County at the turn of the 20th century.
