Teacher, Board Member, Bob Labar Recognized
Spring, 2010
Bob LaBar, a new member of the BWA Board in 2009, was recently honored by the Monroe County Conservation District Environmental Education Center as Conservation Educator of the Year. Additionally, he was also named as Intermediate Level Teacher of the Year for the East Stroudsburg Area School District.
Bob received these awards as a result of the program he developed to involve his 7th grade students in a number of community activities including testing water in the creek behind the East Stroudsburg High School. The students’ results from several months of testing will be added to BWA’s water quality database. As an expansion of their project, Bob’s students recently attacked invasive barberry on the school property (part of the landscaping!) and replaced it with native winterberry, purchased with funding from BWA. “This has been a really great opportunity to get the kids involved at an age when they can appreciate how their actions can directly affect the environment”, said Bob.
Bob teaches social studies at the J.T. Lambert Intermediate School in the East Stroudsburg Area School District. He received his teaching degree from East Stroudsburg University and his Masters degree in classroom technology from Wilkes University. In his free time he enjoys canoeing, kayaking, fishing, hiking, photography and spending time with his family. He lives in Stroudsburg with his wife Darlene, an assistant professor of art at ESU, and family.
